Banatao Family Filipino American Education Fund College Scholarships in USA, 2013


The Asian Pacific Fund administers Banatao Family Filipino American Education Fund College Scholarships for 2013-14 in USA. Students must be incoming freshman enrolled full-time at an accredited four year-college or university in 2013-14. Scholarship is offered to pursue a career in engineering, mathematics, computer science, environmental or physical science. Students must be of Filipino heritage. Total five awards are available of amount $5,000 (annual award). These awards are renewable. Send complete application by March 15, 2013.
Study Subject(s): The scholarship is provided in engineering, mathematics, computer science, environmental or physical science(excluding health care professions).
Course Level: This scholarship is for pursuing undergraduate degree level.

Eligibility: Eligibility Criteria:
-Grade level: Incoming freshman enrolled full-time at an accredited four year-college or university in 2013-14 -Minimum GPA: 3.0
-Major: engineering, mathematics, computer science, environmental or physical science
-Ethnic heritage: Filipino heritage (at least 50%)
-Financial need -Residency: Northern California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento, San Benito, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma or Stanislaus. Southern California counties: Los Angeles, Orange or San Diego.
Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: The residents of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento, San Benito, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma or Stanislaus(Northern California counties) and Los Angeles, Orange or San Diego(Southern California counties) can apply for this scholarship.
Scholarship Description: 15 to 25 finalists will be chosen. Finalist must be available for the 30 min interview in late April in either San Francisco or Palo Alto for northern California candidates, or in one of the three qualified countries for southern California candidates  dates TBD. If chosen for interview, finalist must submit official transcript(s) of grades, SAT/ACT score reports and FAFSA student aid report. Applicants will be notified before May 1 whether or not they have been selected as scholarship recipients.
Number of awards offered: 5 scholarships are offered.
Duration of award(s): It is applicable for 4 years.
What does it cover? $5,000 (annual award) Total award: $20,000.
Selection Criteria: Applications will be selected on the basis of academic achievement , especially in the sciences; well informed educational and career goals in engineering/science; personal strengths, including maturity, motivation and potential to succeed; honors; work experience; financial need.
Notification: Most scholarship decisions will be made by July 1, 2013. Applicants will receive an email or letter in the mail notifying them of the status of their application.
