AICPA Scholarships for Minority Accounting Students in USA, 2013


The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants is offering 80 minority accounting scholarships in USA. The scholarship amount is of up to $3,000 per academic year. The scholarship is a renewable award but students need to renew their scholarship award and have to complete an application the following year. Students must enroll in undergraduate and graduate degree at four-year college or university in USA. Students must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card holder). Students must also have maintained an overall and major GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). All applicants must submit a completed scholarship application by April 1, 2013.

Eligibility:-An underrepresented minority in the accounting profession (e.g., Black or African American; Hispanic or Latino; Native American; or Asian American)
-Enrolled as a full-time undergraduate (12 semester hours or equivalent) or a full-time graduate level student (9 semester hours or equivalent) for the 2013-14 academic year. (Note: an exception may be granted if you plan to participate in an internship
-Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate-level degree in an “accounting-related” major. (“Accounting-related” shall be as determined by Sponsor in Sponsor’s sole discretion.)
-Planning to pursue the CPA licensure but not presently be a CPA Completed at least 30 semester hours (or equivalent) of college coursework, including at least 6 semester hours (or equivalent) in accounting, by end of spring 2013
-Applied to or been accepted into a public or private, 501(c) four-year college or university located in the U.S. states or territories. The business program must be accredited by the AACSB and/or ACBSP.
-Maintained an overall and major GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
-An AICPA student affiliate member (or have submitted a new member application).
-A U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card holder) Some financial need (i.e., not receiving a full or partial scholarship(s) and/or grant(s) that cover and/or exceed one’s educational expenses) Note: AICPA staff and their family members are not eligible to receive this scholarship.

Scholarship Description: The AICPA Minority Scholarship awards outstanding minority students to encourage their selection of accounting as a major and their ultimate entry into the profession. For over four decades, this program has provided over $14.6 million in scholarships to approximately 8,000 accounting scholars.If selected as an AICPA scholarship recipient, the AICPA requires that students selected as scholarship recipients perform eight hours of community service per semester to advocate for the CPA profession. Through their community service efforts, AICPA Legacy Scholars enhance their leadership and communication skills by building relationships with both aspiring and seasoned CPAs.
Number of awards offered: 80 scholarships are offered.
Duration of award(s): Recipients receive individual awards of up to $3,000 per academic year. The Minority Scholarship is a renewable award; however, renewals are neither automatic nor guaranteed. Students who wish to renew their scholarship award must complete an application the following year.
What does it cover? Recipients receive individual awards of up to $3,000 per academic year. Scholarship aid may be used only for the payment of expenses that directly relate to obtaining an accounting education (e.g.; tuition, fees, room and board, and/or books and materials only).
Selection Criteria: Recipient selection is based on academic achievement; demonstration of leadership and volunteerism; and overall commitment to becoming a licensed CPA professional.
Notification:Students selected to advance to the second round will be notified via email by May 1, 2013. All applicants will be notified of final selection by August 1, 2013.
